NFL Week 1 2026 Betting Preview: Opening vs. Current Spreads and Expanded Game Analysis (Sept. 9-14)
The 2026 NFL season opens Wednesday with a Super Bowl LX rematch and the league’s first regular-season game in Australia. Sixteen games span four days. Opening lines posted in May have moved on several key numbers. Current spreads reflect the latest available numbers as of September 8. Be sure to always confirm live odds before betting.
Wednesday, September 9
New England Patriots at Seattle Seahawks
8:20 p.m. ET, NBC/Peacock
Opening: Seahawks -4/-4.5
Current: Seahawks -3.5 (total 44.5)
Sam Darnold and the defending Super Bowl champions host Drake Maye in a rematch of Seattle’s 29-13 win in Super Bowl LX. The Seahawks lost Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III in free agency and offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. New England added A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs. Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson (ankle) is questionable and may sit, elevating Rhamondre Stevenson. Seattle’s four-man rush gave Maye trouble in the Super Bowl; the modest total and shortened line reflect public money on the underdog plus the hook. Under 44.5 has drawn support given both teams’ defensive identities.
Thursday, September 10
San Francisco 49ers vs. Los Angeles Rams
8:35 p.m. ET, Netflix (Melbourne Cricket Ground)
Opening: Rams -2.5/-3
Current: Rams -3.5 (total 48.5)
Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua face Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey and a 49ers defense adding Nick Bosa back from ACL surgery. George Kittle is targeting a Week 1 return from an Achilles tear. The Rams acquired Myles Garrett and have lengthened as favorites after opening closer to a pick’em on a true neutral field. Newly signed Aaron Donald is not playing. The long-haul travel and time-zone disruption add variance. The elevated total prices expected scoring between two high-powered NFC West offenses. Rams -3.5 is the market’s current lean after offseason upgrades.
Sunday, September 13 — 1 p.m. ET
Chicago Bears at Carolina Panthers
Opening: Bears -2.5
Current: Bears -3 (total 47.5)
Caleb Williams and new coach Ben Johnson visit Bryce Young. Chicago WR Rome Odunze (foot) is day-to-day; Luther Burden III is healthy after a groin issue. The Bears have ticked up as road favorites. Carolina’s home inconsistency last season and Chicago’s offensive talent make the extra half-point meaningful. This could turn into an early-season shootout if both young quarterbacks play clean, but that’s a big “if”.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Cincinnati Bengals
Opening: Bengals -3.5
Current: Bengals -3.5 (total 50.5)
Joe Burrow (healthy) hosts Baker Mayfield in the week’s highest-total game. Ja’Marr Chase has returned from a hyperextended knee; Tee Higgins is dealing with a heel issue. Emeka Egbuka (toe) is a watch for Tampa Bay. Cincinnati remains a field-goal favorite at home. Both quarterbacks can light up the scoreboard, supporting the high 50.5 number.
New Orleans Saints at Detroit Lions
Opening: Lions -7
Current: Lions -6.5/-7 (total 49.5)
Jared Goff and a potent Lions offense host Tyler Shough. Running back Alvin Kamara is expected to miss at least a month with a knee sprain, thinning New Orleans’ backfield. Sam LaPorta (hip) is practicing for Detroit. The Lions remain a touchdown favorite at home. The total stays high because Detroit’s offense rarely stalls against rebuilding defenses.
Buffalo Bills at Houston Texans
Opening: Bills -1
Current: Bills -1.5 (total 44.5)
Josh Allen visits C.J. Stroud in a near pick’em. Houston is without WR Jayden Higgins (season-ending ACL) and Tank Dell (IR). Buffalo has several players to monitor, including Khalil Shakir. The Bills are slight road favorites. Houston’s home defensive identity keeps the total modest and the spread tight.
Baltimore Ravens at Indianapolis Colts
Opening: Ravens -4/-3.5
Current: Ravens -3.5 (total 47.5)
Lamar Jackson faces Daniel Jones (Anthony Richardson is the backup). The total has dropped from early 49.5 projections. Baltimore remains a field-goal favorite on the road. Both defenses command respect, which is why the number has come down.
Cleveland Browns at Jacksonville Jaguars
Opening: Jaguars -7/-7.5
Current: Jaguars -8.5 (total 40.5)
Trevor Lawrence hosts Deshaun Watson, who won the Browns’ starting job. The line has lengthened toward Jacksonville amid Cleveland quarterback questions. This is one of the week’s clearest “too many points vs. buy the points” debates. The low total reflects two run-oriented, defense-first identities.
Atlanta Falcons at Pittsburgh Steelers
Opening: Steelers -2.5/-3
Current: Steelers -3.5 (total 41.5)
Aaron Rodgers (19th straight Week 1 start) hosts Tua Tagovailoa. Michael Penix Jr. is inactive with a knee issue; Cooper Rush is the backup. Pittsburgh has strengthened at home. The low total points to a physical, low-scoring game. Tua’s first start in Atlanta’s new scheme under Kevin Stefanski adds uncertainty.
New York Jets at Tennessee Titans
Opening: Titans -2.5/-3
Current: Titans -1.5 (total 39.5)
Geno Smith visits Cam Ward and new Titans coach Robert Saleh, who faces his former team. This is the week’s lowest total. The line has tightened as Jets money arrived. Expect a grind-it-out, low-scoring affair.
Sunday, September 13 — 4:25 p.m. ET
Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Chargers
Opening: Chargers -10.5
Current: Chargers -9.5/-10.5 (total 47)
Justin Herbert hosts Jacoby Brissett. Arizona rookie RB Jeremiyah Love is dealing with an ankle sprain. The Chargers remain one of only two double-digit favorites. Slight movement toward the Cardinals has not changed the overall market view of a lopsided home matchup.
Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings
Opening: Packers -2 (road) or slight Vikings favorite
Current: Vikings -1.5 (total 46.5)
NFL Week 1 2026 showdown between the “Black and Blue” division rivals – Packers vs. Vikings. Jordan Love visits Kyler Murray in a flipped line. Josh Jacobs is out for Green Bay. Minnesota is now a slight home favorite in this NFC North rivalry. Expect a physical, closely contested game.
Miami Dolphins at Las Vegas Raiders
Opening: Raiders -3.5
Current: Raiders -3.5 (total 40.5)
Malik Willis starts for Miami against Kirk Cousins (rookie Fernando Mendoza is on the bench). Ashton Jeanty (ankle) is a watch for Las Vegas. The Raiders hold as a field-goal home favorite. The modest total reflects two teams still sorting offensive identities.
Washington Commanders at Philadelphia Eagles
Opening: Eagles -4.5/-5
Current: Eagles -4.5/-5.5 (total 44.5)
Jalen Hurts hosts Jayden Daniels. The total has dropped from opening numbers. Philadelphia remains a solid home favorite. Both coaching staffs emphasize ball control, supporting the lower total in this NFL Week 1 2026 showdown.
Sunday Night Football
Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants 8:20 p.m. ET
Opening: Cowboys -2.5
Current: Cowboys -2.5/-3 (total 48.5)
Dak Prescott visits Jaxson Dart. Cowboys LG Tyler Smith will miss 4-6 weeks after thumb surgery. Malik Nabers (knee) is a key watch for New York. Dallas remains a road favorite. The high-40s total is typical for this rivalry when both offenses are functional.
Monday Night Football, September 14
Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs 8:15 p.m. ET
Opening: Chiefs -3
Current: Chiefs -2.5/-3 (total 43.5)
Patrick Mahomes is expected to start in his return from ACL/LCL surgery. Bo Nix and the Broncos visit Arrowhead. The line has hovered around a field goal. The relatively modest total prices some rust for Mahomes and respect for Denver’s defense.
NFL Week 1 2026 Betting Notes
Several spreads moved a full point or more (Rams, Jaguars, Packers-Vikings flip). Key numbers of 3, 3.5, 7 and 7.5 appear often, so half-point differences matter. Totals range from 39.5 to 50.5. Monitor official injury reports closer to kickoff, especially for Henderson, Odunze, Kittle, Bosa, Mahomes and several skill-position players. Shop lines and bet responsibly. ASA COLLEGE FOOTBALL FREE PLAY ON Mississippi State -28.5 over UL Monroe, Saturday at 7:30 PM ET
ULM is one of the worst programs in CFB with just 7 wins over FBS opponents in their last 3 seasons. They are just 37-81 SU over the last decade. Their spread record during that time is 48-68-2 ATS. Even when the oddsmakers throw up a big spread against this team they don’t cover. The Warhawks are just 1-7 ATS their last 8 times as a dog of 20+ points.
MSU should be able to name their score here. The Dogs will dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball vs a ULM offensive line that ranks 125th in returning snaps. In addition, the ULM defensive line only brings back 44 total snaps from last season (dead last in the nation). If you’re seeking a valuable free play, college football insights often point to dominant favorites like MSU.
The Warhawks rank 127th in freshmen + portal additions so they don’t have much talent replacing those lost snaps. Mississippi State should run at will here and should hang a huge number in this game. T
The Dogs have one of the top QB’s in the SEC returning (Davis) who will put extra pressure on ULM’s D. He is very athletic and can put up big games on the ground and through the air. For fans looking for this week’s most promising free play in college football, this matchup stands out.
We rate Monroe’s offense and defense outside the top 125 entering this season. Therefore, we look for huge success on both sides of the ball for MSU.
Last year ULM lost their 2 games vs Power 4 teams 73-0 vs Alabama and 42-7 vs Northwestern (one of the worst teams in the Big 10 LY). In fact, going back 4 years, the Warhawks have faced 7 Power 4 teams. They’ve been outscored in those games 363 to 33 (an average score of 51.8 to 4.7!).
Lastly, while Monroe has struggled cashing as a big underdog, Mississippi State has been a bully vs lower tier competition. They are going 15-3-1 ATS as a favorite of 20 or more (since 2017). Let’s lay it. To conclude, this makes for a compelling college football free play, given the teams’ history.
MLB Free play Milwaukee Brewers Run Line -160 over Cincinnati Reds, Friday at 6:10 PM ET
The Brewers are off a loss and have won 5 of 7 when coming off a loss. They lost a tight one against the Cubs yesterday but now will take advantage of facing the Reds today. In matchups like today’s MLB free play Brewers vs Reds, these trends matter and fans are eagerly anticipating the Sept 4, 2026 clash.
Cincinnati is 15-28 in divisional games this season while the Brewers are 24-13 in divisional games on the year.
Milwaukee also has the pitching edge here with Drohan going 4-2 with a 3.38 ERA on the road this season and he is holding opponents to a .229 batting average when away from Milwaukee. He’ll be opposed by Lowder here and the Reds right-hander is 6-8 with a 5.14 ERA on the season. For those following closely, this Brewers vs Reds MLB Free play on Sept 4, 2026 features two pitchers with very different season stats.
Also, Lowder has been crushed by the Brewers both times he faced them this season. Lowder allowed 9 earned runs on 19 hits in 10 and 2/3 innings in his two starts versus Milwaukee! For this reason, MLB free play Brewers vs Reds stands out as a matchup to watch.
Milwaukee was on a 12-5 run prior to yesterday’s loss. Cincinnati is off B2B wins and they have gone 0-3 the last 3 times they have entered a game off consecutive wins. For bettors, the Brewers vs Reds MLB Free play on September 4, 2026 could offer unique value.
The Reds were on a 6-11 slump prior to the B2B losses. Fans looking forward to MLB Free play Brewers vs Reds for Sept 4, 2026 can take these trends into account.
Solid situational setup here to back the road team and we look for the Brewers to roll to a comfortable road win here. Lay the price with Milwaukee here in very early evening action Friday.

ASA’s ACC Sleeper Team in 2026: Virginia Tech Hokies Prediction
The ACC is deeper and more unbalanced than it used to be: 17 football programs, a new nine-game league slate for most of them, and several rebuilt staffs chasing the same bowl spots. Miami, Clemson, and SMU will get the preseason headlines. Virginia Tech is the team ASA likes as the sleeper.
James Franklin is in Blacksburg after his Penn State run. He brought a proven fill-in quarterback, kept a large chunk of the Hokies’ two-deep, and patched the rest with a top-25 transfer class. ASA’s power ratings have Tech comfortably favored in five games (by six or more points) and sitting near a pick’em in four others. If last year’s turnover problem is cleaned up, a bowl trip is the floor.
2026 ACC Football Teams
The ACC remains a 17-team football league in 2026. Notre Dame continues its ACC scheduling partnership but is not a full football member.
Boston College Eagles
California Golden Bears
Clemson Tigers
Duke Blue Devils
Florida State Seminoles
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Louisville Cardinals
Miami Hurricanes
North Carolina Tar Heels
NC State Wolfpack
Pitt Panthers
SMU Mustangs
Stanford Cardinal
Syracuse Orange
Virginia Cavaliers
Virginia Tech Hokies
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Virginia Tech Hokies Betting Prediction
Virginia Tech made the splash hire of the ACC cycle by bringing in James Franklin, the former Penn State head coach. Franklin did not arrive empty-handed. Quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer followed him from State College after filling in when Drew Allar went down last season. Grunkemeyer led the Nittany Lions to four wins in five starts, with the only loss a three-point defeat to national champion Indiana in a game Penn State outgained the Hoosiers. He completed 69.1% of his passes for 1,339 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions. He is now Virginia Tech’s named starter.
RETURNING STARTERS
Continuity is the other half of the sleeper case. The Hokies return 14 starters, tied for the second-most in the country. Franklin then filled the holes with a solid top-25 transfer portal haul that included several former Penn State pieces on both lines and at skill positions. Combine returning starters with imported snaps and Virginia Tech ranks in the top 25 nationally in overall experience. That is a different profile than a typical Year 1 rebuild.
SCHEDULE HELP
The schedule helps. ASA has Virginia Tech’s strength of schedule outside the top 40. They open with VMI, then move into an ACC slate that is demanding but not brutal every week. Our power ratings currently have the Hokies comfortably favored in five games (-6 or better) and essentially a coin flip in four more. That is a bowl path if they play clean football.
TURNOVER ISSUES
The caution flag is real. Last year’s team ranked 120th in turnover margin, and that alone can wipe out talent and coaching upgrades. Franklin’s staffs have generally been sharper in that area. If Tech stops giving games away, the talent and experience are already in place to get back to six or seven wins.
Why ASA likes them as the ACC sleeper
A Power Four coach with a known quarterback, 14 returning starters, a top-25 portal class, top-25 overall snap experience, and a schedule that is not loaded with landmines. That is how a 3-9 program becomes a bowl team in one offseason. The Hokies are not the ACC favorite. They are the team most likely to beat the preseason projection.Check ASAwins.com for updated ACC power ratings, weekly picks, and betting analysis as the season starts.

Ouch #Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights were favored by 30ish points tonight at home vs #UMass and they trail the Minutemen 24-7 at half! Massachusetts dominating with 251 total yards at half to just 108 for Rutgers. #CFBThursday
