Indiana can’t win because the powers that be, (WNBA, Cathy Engelburt) won’t allow this team to win and draw attention away from their gender/race narrative. The Fever have the pieces with Kelsey Mitchell – 2nd in scoring, Caitlin Clark – 3rd in scoring, 2nd in assists (both top 4 in 3PT’s made), Aliyah Boston – 10th in rebounds and Sophie Cunningham – 3rd 3PT%. Indiana has the best offensive numbers in the league, but their defense is 10th. Save your money.
THE OTHERS
New York has all the veteran pieces, but they may have peaked a few years ago and we may be looking at the end of a dynasty. The Liberty are closer to average in both offense and defense metrics than they are at the top of the league.
Washington has a roster full of first, or second-year players who are a year or two away from being serious contenders, plus their offense is 13 out of 15 teams in the league.
Dallas took a pretty big hit when rookie Azzi Fudd was lost for the season due to injury. Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale can only carry this team so far and it won’t be out of the 1st round.
That leaves…
Las Vegas Aces, Golden State Valkyries and the Minnesota Lynx as the only true contenders for the WNBA title this season.
LAS VEGAS ACES:
There is a reason the Aces have the second lowest odds to win it all this season despite sitting 3rd in the standings. The main reason is A’ja Wilson who continues to be the best player in the league, 1st in scoring at 26PPG, 3rd in rebounding at 9.4 and 1st in blocks p/game. The Aces also have Jackie Young, Chennedy Carter and Chelsea Gray who are all scoring in double figures.
A big loss for the postseason is going to be NaLyssa Smith who was 2nd on the team in rebounding.
The Aces don’t have great regular season statistics ranking 5th in Net rating but this is a team that can flip a switch and turn it on when they want to. Las Vegas is a very dangerous team with Championships in 3 of the last four seasons and we certainly wouldn’t be shocked if they won it all in 2026.
GOLDEN STATE VALKYRIES:
We really like how the Valkyries compete every game and think this team could provide a very serious challenge to the Lynx, especially considering they potentially won’t face the Lynx until the Finals. Golden State has the 2nd best Net rating in the league at +9.4, just behind Minnesota at +9.5. To win a Championship you have to be good on the road and the Valkyries are with a 14-6 SU record and an average plus/minus of +7.3PPG on the season. They have a great defense, but their offense may let them down in the playoffs as they rank 7th overall and have an eFG% of 50.3% which ranks 10th. This is certainly a team to watch, but without enough playoff experience on their roster they will come up short in the end.
MINNESOTA LYNX:
The Lynx are the favorites for a reason as they are the best team in the league. I find it funny that nobody talks about Napheesa Collier, who’s been a serious MVP candidate the past few years, averaging 18PPG and 7.3RPG since coming back from injury, and only talks about rookie sensation Olivia Miles.
Miles deserves all the praise she gets as she’s quickly becoming one of the best players in the league, but Collier is the center piece of this team. Miles will certainly win rookie of the year honors and is in the running for league MVP, which is kind of a joke considering her numbers aren’t as good as Caitlyn Clarks, Kelsey Mitchell or A’ja Wilson.
Regardless, this Lynx team has the 2nd best eFG% (54.8%) in the W, behind only the Fever at 56.7%. They have the best overall Net rating at +9.5 and have put together a dominating season with an average scoring differential of +7.9PPG. Minnesota has great scoring balance with 5 players averaging 14 or more points and have a defense that allows just 1.044-points per possession (3rd). The Lynx are going to have home court advantage throughout the playoffs, barring a disaster in the final 4-games of the regular season, and there isn’t a tougher place to win than Minnesota. The Lynx are 57-15 SU on their home court since 2024 and they’ve won by an average of +9.2PPG, both best in the league.
